Retrofit Double Glazing Windows

Windows, when double glazed well can make a lot of difference in your home. It does not only add comfort but it definitely looks good to. The bad news however, window companies charge a lot for their service. So when is a good time to think about double glazing your windows?

Here are a few questions that will get you to think that now is the perfect time:

  • Do you think you are having high energy bills maybe because your double glazing units are old?

Having your double glazed windows placed with a new one is not really a lot of savings.

That is even if you are currently using a single glazed window and change it to double glazed, you can still save a few energy. Keep in mind however, that it will still take a couple of decades before the windows will start paying for themselves.

Just the same, big or small, there is still a chance for a change in your bill.

In addition, check if your current window has big gaps around the frame. If that is the case, there is a big chance that cold draughts will come in. As such, that in itself is enough reason to replace your old unit. Regardless of the case, there are still more reasons to consider if now is the time to change.

  • Is your double glazed window so foggy that you cannot even see?

Over time, the unit is so worn out it just gives up. This happens when the gas that is between the unit that assists in the minimising the transfer of heat leaks. As a result, the air can enter into the void and condensation will happen. .Thus, it forms in the panes of the glass.

This situation will certainly ruin your view of the outside. So it is definitely a big yes to change your unit.

It might be more costly to seek professional help for this, but it will save you more in the long run, for you can use your windows much longer since it was done by a very knowledgeable person.

  • Is the style of double glazed window outdated, as far as fashion in interior design is concerned?

There is an old saying, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”. Some people just like to change their unit just because they may want something new. Add a little jazz to it like putting in wooden or aluminum frames.

  • What if my unit is falling apart?

This one is pretty obvious. When you see that your unit is rotting then now is the time to get it fixed. It does not only look bad, but it is not also safe for your windows.
